Regimental Staff Duties

Commanding Officer:

The Commanding Officer commands and directs the unit whether at all times. His duties include working with other Commands and seeing that orders from higher authority are executed as required. Duties also include making sure that all regulations and policies are carried out. These include but are not limited to uniforms, camp appearance, and drill. Calls and commands Staff meetings, also duties include the appointment and supervision of staff, according to regulations and historic accuracy. The Commanding Officer works with personal in bringing them up to Regimental Standards.

The Executive Officer:

The Executive Officers completes the duties of the Commanding Officer in his absence. He, assist the Commanding Officer as needed.

The Adjutant:

Handles the Regimental paperwork including but not limited to making required reports to the Regimental Headquarters, and he receives the company morning reports, safety inspection reports. Produces or oversees production of a daily consolidated regimental morning report from all companies for regimental headquarters as required in the field. He signs and receives orders from higher commands and makes the daily schedule and post the regimental orders as required. Assist with messengers and drill as needed and drills recruits as needed by command.

The Quartermaster

Receives word from adjutant, about the number of men and tents scheduled to appear at an upcoming event, he arrives early at event sites and lays out the camp area as directed by higher headquarters, applying numbers received from adjutant.

When required, produces requisitions for material supplied by higher headquarters such as wood and straw and assigns it to companies as needed. Oversees stockpiling of wood and straw in situations where such is required as needed and acts as Liaison with chief quartermaster at higher headquarters at events to learn specific needs. Supervises any enlisted personnel assigned as needed. Duties will also include helping members adhere to uniform regulations and working close with ordering and distribution of equipment

The Ordnance Officer (Safety):

Oversees weapons inspections as assigned by higher headquarters and inspects weapons within the regiment as required. Makes field repairs on weapons or suggests needed repairs as needed. Produces report to regiment at events on condition of weapons inspected as needed. He instructs, the regimental personnel on use and care of weapons as needed and acts as Liaison with the chief ordnance officer at higher headquarters at each event to learn specific needs.

The Surgeon:

The Surgeon attends to injured personnel as needed legally or otherwise possible. The Surgeon makes suggestions to the command involving the health and welfare of regimental personnel and supervises the regimental hospital and/or medical area and personnel.

The Provost Marshall:

Oversees the Security of the Camp, assigns security detachments as needed for the security of the camp during an event. Enforcement of violations of regimental regulations may require disciplinary action in the form of company punishment, probation, suspension, and if merited dismissal from the unit. Charges will be filled in writing for major violations and forwarded to the Provost Marshall. The Provost Marshall will select a disciplinary board of two Officers and two NCOs to hear the charge and talk with those involved. Provost Marshall will access punishment. Minor infractions will be handled within company and will warrant no more than company punishment.

The Regimental Paymaster:

Pay Master, (Treasurer), is given charge over the Unit's financial dealings and is nominated by staff and Company representatives, and selected after a meeting with Regimental Staff and Company commanders. Regiment Paymaster will hold the rank of 1st Lieutenant and Asst. Paymaster will hold the Rank of 2nd Lieutenant. No one shall purchase items on behalf of the Regiment and expect a reimbursement without having permission to purchase specific items at a specific price being requested and approved by the a Founder and two Company Commanders in writing, prior to purchase.

The Paymaster will be appointed with an assistant paymaster and they will act as Treasurer and assistant Treasurer for the Regiment. A bank account will be established in the organizational name, and a requirement that two signatures are needed to access theses funds. A report must be given by the paymaster at Regimental meetings. A yearly report of finance will be made available to any member.

The Chaplain:

The duties of the Chaplain, is to attend to spiritual needs of regimental personnel. Holds Sunday and other services as required and possible. The Chaplain makes suggestions to command involving the spiritual welfare of regimental personnel.

The Aide-de-Camp:

The Aide-de-Camp must attend to specific requirements of the commanding officer as directed.

The Sergeant Major:

Assists adjutant in performance of duties and keeps the official time within the regiment. He supervises field music in the absence of a drum or fife major and gives orders to company first sergeants from the commanding officer or adjutant as required. The Sergeant Major oversees adherence to regimental policy on camp appearance in company streets and the adherence to regimental policies among enlisted personnel as required.

The sergeant major was the senior enlisted man in the unit. He assist the "adjutant in the performance of his duties; he makes the details for guard, fatigue, and commands the NCOs under his direction, assists staff in making out the various returns, rolls, and sees that the musicians detailed at head-quarters sounds the calls at the proper time...returns morning report books to the first sergeants, gives them orders for the day....". If the unit did not have a chief musician, the musicians reported directly to the sergeant major as well.

The Color Sergeant:

Command’s the color guard. Safeguards the regimental colors as required on and off the field. The Color Sergeant selects personnel for the color guard at each event, drawing equally from companies according to their field strengths and trains the color guard in the drill of the guard on the field.
