RULES AND REGULATIONS

SECTION ONE

Rules and regulations for the 18th Texas Infantry

Violation of the Rules and Regulations may bring disciplinary action. Disciplinary response may be in the form of company punishment, probation, suspension, and if merited dismissal from the unit. Charges will be filled in writing for major violations and forwarded to the Provost Marshall. The Provost Marshall will select a disciplinary board of two Officers and two NCOs to hear the charge and talk with those involved. Provost Marshall will access punishment. Minor infractions will be handled within company and will warrant no more than company punishment. The Regimental Commander reserves the right to refuse or revoke membership, if said person continues to be disruptive and insubordinate.

A member may ask for transfer from an assignment, or Company. This must be done in writing and forwarded to Regimental HQ through the Company Commander.

SECTION TWO

General Rules:

As a representation of a Military unit, all members shall obey the orders and commands of the officers and NCOs of the 18th Texas. The proper military courtesy shall be shown at all times during unit activities, such as drill, muster, and a reenactment, this means whenever a member is in uniform.

Company Commanders are required to take a roll of those present at Regimental or Company functions and forward it to Regiment. In camp, a Company Commander will drill his troops and perform roll as was done during the period.

Upon attending an event the member shall report to the senior NCO of their company.

Once a member has checked into camp me may not leave without a pass issued by the Officer of the day, Company Commander, or senior NCO.

Military courtesy shall be show to members in uniform from other groups, however members shall follow only those instructions issued by their Regiments NCOs and Officers.

Young men in the ranks; The Confederate Army had many men under the age of 18 serving in the ranks. For safety reasons no member below the age of 15 shall shoulder a weapon onto a field of engagement. Those between 14 and 15 can train with the Regiment. All members under 18 will have to have filed a sign authorization for participation from a parent or legal caretaker.

Company and Regimental, Fife and Drum corps, or buglers can be as young as 12 years of age if they demonstrate the appropriate skill. A parent or guardian or is required to escort young men under 15 years of age, Unless written authorization is given by parent, indicating whom will be in charge of the minor. Any member under 18 will have to have a signed slip giving permission for the youth to participate unless accompanied by parent or legal guardian.

Members of the 18th Regiment will hold an active status as long as they attend drills and events. This can be either Company or Regimental drills. Understand that without drill the Company will not be able to operate in a uniform military manner. Therefore you should attend at least one drill per quarter.

SECTION THREE

REMEMBER ALL OF OUR TROOPS GO HOME AFTER AN EVENT!

Every member has a duty to order a cease-fire if the observe a dangerous situation and they believe the Commanders are unaware.

Bayonets will not be fixed to your weapon unless the order is so given. No rammers will be drawn on the field.

Firing of a weapon is to be supervised. No weapon will ever be discharged without authorization from an Officer or Senior NCO. It will be their duty then to advise the camp that a weapon will be fired. Unless other wise instructed, your musket will always be unloaded.

To protect from becoming dehydrated, canteens are to be full when involved in events. There will not be any hand to hand combat unless approved by both Commanders and all parties are instructed and choreographed step-by-step as to the action and the outcome.

The only approved firearm for infantry troops is a "three banded" percussion musket (Springfield or Enfield.) Only officers and the Regimental Sergeant Major may carry a pistol. Sabers can only be carried by Officers and Senior NCOs, and they must represent the correct period. No non-period weapons are to be allowed.

Black powder is an explosive. As such it will not be carried loose at any event. Only properly wrapped cartridges are allowed. There can be no foreign substances, such as glue, tape or staples as these items become projectiles.

There will be no projectiles carried at any event. No mini balls or any lead. This is a serious breech and could accidently lead to injury or death. The individual bringing live rounds will be asked to leave immediately and will be discharge from the unit.

Cartridges are to be stored in cartridge boxes with tin inserts.

Safety is of the utmost importance, therefore the will be no tolerance for possession of illegal substances or drunkenness. This will require those involved to be removed from the unit.

Since our muskets can fire live ammunition, in is required that every musket be checked thoroughly for lead and be cleared prior to every event. This will be signed off on by both the Senior NCO and Company Commander in writing and turned into Regiment.

Acceptable tents for a Company would include: Two man shelter, (or "Dog"), tents of authentic material, or "A" tents or no tents at all. Officer's and NCO should have "A" tents and enlisted should have small A tents or the more common half shelters or "Dog" tents.

Campfires shall not be left unattended at any time.

Company officers will check and secure that all fires are completely out prior to leaving, and the grounds restored to prior condition (i.e. firepits filled in, all trash disposed of.)

Camp must be kept free, out of sight, of any non-period appropriate items. All equipment and gear shall be properly maintained and marked with the soldiers name, regimental number and company letter. This includes smoking (smokers should take care to smoke out of the sight of spectators when smoking modern tobacco products).

A copy of medical history shall be filed with the Regimental Surgeon and the medical staff. They have the responsible for having copies of these items at events. However, personnel should have their emergency medical information with them, in case of accident.

Officers shall set the example in appearance, deportment, and timeliness. As leaders you should be the example.
