DRILL GUIDELINES
FOR THE USE BY THE COMPANIES OF THE 18TH
REG’T
Common commands and guidelines which should be
well versed by the Officers and NCOs.
- The authorized drill manual for the 18th Texas
Vol. Infantry will be Hardee's Rifle & Infantry Tactics, 1862.
Officers and NCOs must study this manual.
- Member companies are expected, when unit ranks
are such, to be able to maneuver by platoon and by company.
- The position of each Officer and NCOs should be
familiar to those ranks with each knowing their proper position within
an evolution.
- School of the Company should be regularly
drilled, with detail being given to all aspects of this text.
- The following maneuvers are mandatory for the
company:
A. Facing right, left, front, and about (including
doubling and un-doubling)
B. Marching quick, double-quick, and common time, backward and right
(and left) oblique
C. Marching by the right and left flanks; right about march
D. Countermarching
E. By company into line
F. On the right (and left) by file into line.
G. Right (and left) wheels, and half wheels; Right (and left) into
line, wheel
H. Right and left turns into line
- The following will be drilled to the forward
and to the right and left oblique:
A. Firing by company
B. Firing by platoon
C. Firing by file (from the right)
D. Firing by rank
- A company must be capable of deploying as
skirmishers, firing as such, and reforming.
